CIC Policy

During the last period, the Committee on Information and Communication has focused its efforts on two main points:

  1. Disseminate information and the communication culture among the engineering community by helping local engineering organizations establish policy regarding promoting the use of NTIC by engineers.

  2. Play an active role at the international level by participating in the most important events organized on the subject of NTIC.

As part of the first point, the CIC has been in touch with several local technology organizations for the purpose of holding seminars and workshops. The CIC, in collaboration with the Engineer's Order of Lebanon organized a successful two day seminar entitled "Information and continuous training for engineers through internet". The seminar was the occasion of the launching of a campaign towards promoting the use of the internet by the Lebanese engineer's community.

A seminar was also planned to be organized in Lagos. This seminar was postponed for many reasons. It is expected to be held in August, serval engineering organizations from the neighbouring countries are expected to take part in this event.

The CIC is also in touch with the Engineering Organizations in Brazilia and Indonesia to organize a seminar in one of these countries by the end of the year. Contact is also established with the Federation of Arab Engineers (FAE) in order to organize jointly an action. The CIC put special emphasis on African countries in order to strengthen the link between WFEO and the African continent.

For the second point, CIC is planing to play an active role in the next world summit on the "Information Society" on the theme of technology and the "Digital gap". In this respect, the CIC is working to organize, in preparation of the world summit, an international seminar in on "Contribution of the enigineering community to bridge the existing digital gap between developed and developing countries", in conjunction with the WFEO General Assembly.

Through this action CIC aims to engage an internation reflection on this theme and to present the view of the engineering community to the World Summit. CIC will publish the first issue of its newsletter which will be ready for the next G.A.
